Charbonneau: Small Business Workshops to
highlight state programs, available resourcesSmall businesses nationwide create 75%of new jobs, employ 50% of workforce (STATEHOUSE) – State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso) encourages owners of small businesses to attend an upcoming workshop highlighting state programs and resources. Here are dates and sites for the three-hour INgov Roadshow workshops all sponsored by the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
■ Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Valparaiso, Ivy Tech Community College Auditorium, 3100 Ivy Tech Drive, Valparaiso;
■ Wednesday, Oct. 22, at New Albany, Indiana University South East, Hoosier Room, 4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany:
Registration for the workshops is free but limited. Small businesses may register to attend by calling 1-800-988-7901 or by logging on to www.IN.gov/confreg. Presenters will provide small business owners information about how to access state-sponsored programs and introduce businesses to state managers charged with overseeing small business initiatives. This workshop will feature representatives from: n Indiana Economic Development Corp.
n Department of Workforce Development;
n Department of Environmental Management;
n Department of Administration;
n Department of Labor;
n Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor;
n Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives; and
n Indiana Secretary of State’s office. Small businesses are responsible for 75 percent of all new jobs, according to the National Federation of Independent Businesses. The U.S. Small Business Administration reports half of the private sector workers in the country are employed by small businesses. “This is a good opportunity for owners of small businesses to get information from a variety of sources in one location, instead of traveling from office to office,” Charbonneau said. “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and I’m glad the IEDC is sponsoring these workshops to help them grow.
Sen. Charbonneau represents Senate District 5, which includes Starke County and portions of Porter, LaPorte, Marshall, Jasper, Pulaski, and St. Joseph counties.
