Four Knox High School students charged with participating in several burglaries in Starke County were in Starke Circuit Court yesterday. The detention hearing was held before Judge Kim Hall. The probable cause documents reported a number of break-ins at the Sandbar at Bass Lake, Fletcher’s CArpet near Toto, Doolies at San Pierre and the Bass Lake Pub and Risturantie. Those charged are being held in a Muncie Juvenile Center.

The Knox City Council heard from Mitch and Renae Markovitz about a resident issue Tuesday night. The Markovitz family has a child who is deaf and boards a school bus for Culver everyday in front of their house on the 200 block of Pearl Street. The new neighbors next door are known to have several cars in front of their house and the Markovitz residence, making it difficult for the child to board the bus safely and creates a maneuverability problem for the school bus. The Council will discuss the issue with the City Attorney and try to get the matter resolved.

At its recent meeting, the North Judson Town Board agreed to pay the $25, 000 to the La Porte County Co-op as repayment of a loan in 2005 to help secure a grant to repair some track and a bridge on the rail line between Malden, La Crosse and Wellsboro.
