This being the 4th of July, all government offices will be closed as will all BMV offices, there will be no mail delivery and all financial institutions will be closed.
A public haring was held this week in Star City to record public comments regarding the formation of a regional sewer district in Star City. About 30 people were in attendance and some raised questions about a possible waiver for folks who may have recently installed a septic system. Terry Hansen, director of the Pulaski County’s Department of Public Health, said that about percent of the current septic systems do not meet state codes.
President Bush signed an extension of jobless aid this week. The measure provides as many as 13 extra weeks of unemployment assistance for people who have lost their jobs and have exhausted 26 weeks of state benefits. Nationally, the unemployment rate stood at 5.5 percent in May, taking the largest one month increase since 1986.
Thinking about trading your gas powered vehicle for a bike? Well, a Ft. Wayne woman this week pointed out the advantages and problems in the local paper there. After putting $90.00 worth of gasoline into her SUV she said, “Enough is enough”. That is when she brought out her bike. In the article, the woman said her 20 minute bike ride to work burns 300 calories.
