Just in time for the 4th of July weekend, Oil prices have gone up again. Prices have gone to $146 a barrel Thursday for the first time ever on reports of declining US Stockpiles and the threat of a conflict with Iran.
As we told you yesterday, local governmental officials came together this week in Knox to hear a presentation by Andrew Berger, Deputy Legislative Director of the Association of Indiana Counties. Berger talked about how governing bodies in Starke county will now have to conduct business. Changes are coming because of the passage of House Bill 1001 in the most recent session of the legislature.
La Porte’s 4th of July Parade, tomorrow, will feature Hollywod star Sean Astin as its Grand Marshall. His wife’s family live in nearby Rolling Prarie. As the Grand Marshall of the Jaycees 62nd Independence Day event, Astin will be in the 71st of the parade’s 146 unites.
The Starke County Historical Museum’s annual “Old Fashioned ice Cream Social” is set for Sunday, July 6th from 1 to 3 PM CST on the Museum grounds at 401 South Main Street in Knox. Come and enjoy the ice cream and see exhibits inside and outside of the building such as an operating spinning wheel; old cars, trucks and tractors; and Indian arrowheads as well as the new “farm exhibit” and the outstanding “Lewis and Clark” medical exhibit.
A Culver woman, Angela Ridenour has been named as an Indiana Arts Commission grant recipient. She was among 42 to receive a grant state-wide. Ridenour is in region 2. Others to receive grants were Shari Benyousky of Warsaw, Rachel Reynolds of South Bend, and Devorah Snively of Mishawaka.
There are several 4th of July firework celebrations in our area tomorrow and Saturday. The Town of Winamac will have its fireworks display tomorrow at the Winamac Town Park at dusk. This event is sponsored by the Winamac Kiwanis. The Town of Walkerton will have its fireworks display tomorrow on the property of the John Glenn High School. The City of La Porte will have fireworks at 9:15 PM CST at the La Porte County Fairgrounds. The County-wide fireworks display for Starke County is scheduled for Saturday at the Starke County Airport. The gates will open at 6 PM CST and a free will donation will be appreciated for admission to the fireworks.
Jack Lynch, a director of the Starke County Development Foundation for the past 22 years, and a founding member of the Foundation, will be honored at an open house, Wednesday, July 16 at the Foundation office at 4 North Main Street in Knox.
