A former Knox business-woman, June E. Binkley, passed away early this morning. She was 82 and had been in declining health. Mrs. Binkley and her husband, the late Richard Binkley, were the owners and operators of Binkley Real Estate. Services are pending at Braman and Son Funeral Home for Mrs. Binkley.
A former Starke County resident, 40-year-old Dawn Kanlick Tan, a 1987 graduate of Knox High School, was fatally injured in a car-truck accident near Vero Beach, Florida, on Wednesday. Her Suzuiki Sedan collided with a citrus truck. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Twin sisters in every way, South Central’s Sunday graduation will be unusual as the top two students are twin sisters. Sabrina and Samantha Glasgow are the valedictorian and salutatorian of the 2008 graduating class. Sabrina has earned an “A” in every class she’s taken at South Central, while Samantha has earned all “A’s” expect one. She got an A- in one class during her school academic career.
On May 9th, Jay Weinberg took his guitar and climbed onto the top of a gas station in Valpariso to publicize his song “Price Gouging”. With the dramatic rise in gasoline prices, the song is getting air time at stations around the country. Weinberg said he has been making the rounds of early morning shows in Chicago. Jay Weinberg lived in Knox and attended school here until his Sophomore year in high school. He’s hoping for a career in songwriting and performing.
They are everywhere! Motor scooters are “all the rage” as commuters try to lesson the effects of high gasoline prices. WSBT-TV did a feature on it the other night in which South Bend Firefighter Brian McLaughlin was featured on his scooter. McLaughlin said, in the piece, that he used to drive an extended cab pick-up, but now relies on his scooter to get him back and forth to work. He says the scooter holds a gallon and a half of gas and gets hi back and forth to work for about 2 months.
